Hello, hello, hello???

Where in the world is Herschel Thompson?  It has been a whirlwind of a vacation and I am back in the swing of things after traveling 1985 miles with the family and enjoying an awesome time enjoying the midwest & extended family.

However, this week is also ‘2008-2009 strategic planning week’ so our adult ministry team is neck deep in ideas, vision, planning, etc… and loving what God is crafting through our prayers, plans, & research!  Many of you know that we utilize a lot of group leadership materials from Life Church in OKC and Willow Creek Community Church in Chicago, but we are also looking to group models at Forest Hill Church & Seacoast Church out East, Community Christian Church in Chicago, and even from Mosaic Church out in LA.  All that to say that we would benefit extremely from your prayers this week as we craft our best plans yet as we rely on the holy spirit’s direction & leading.

The Challenge Has Been Issued…

One of our amazing groups, the Crews Life Group, has issued a blanket challenge to all groups for a volleyball tournament coming up June 29th! 

Here are the details!

Join us for an evening of fun, fellowship, food, and friends at the Sturgell-Rosa on Sunday, June 29th starting at 5 pm. We will play a 6 person team (substitutes ok) bracketed volleyball tournament with winner take all..(bragging rights). All ages, all groups are welcome to join and if you don’t have six people come anyway and we will make teams at the games. Bring a Pot luck of Sandwiches and finger food. Drinks and ice will be provided. Bring the kid’s, bring Grandpa and Grandma, bring Aunt Betty but bring your “A” game because the Crews’s small group HAS been practicing..(once)..and will dominate. We expect a great turn out so please come.

Directions are easy. Go South on I-35 (from Norman) to exit 104. The exit will curve you around to the west, past the Goldsby store, where you will see a yield sign. Go right, past Libby’s restaurant, and in about a mile and a half you will see balloons tied to a mailbox on your right. YOU’RE HERE.1676 S. Main Goldsby. We will have a lot of fun so don’t miss out. One Prayer starts this weekend!

Not only is it my birthday this Sunday, but even more importantly we are embarking on fantastic adventure with hundreds of other churches across the country!  Over 800 churches have joined together in an amazing sign of unity of the Body of Christ for a 5 week study on our ‘one prayer’ for the Church as a whole.  Clark starts it all off this weekend with his prayer for all of the churches…Lord, make us EFFECTIVE.  See HERE for one prayer details. 

Small Group DVDs will be available at the What’s Next booth, and we are utilizing the One Prayer DVD materials for this series so you guys won’t have to watch me for this series!  Let your coach know if you have any questions!

Summer is an awesome time to enjoy relationships, and the perfect time to get into a group.  OR if you’d like to START a new group here at Journey the process is very simple.  Grab 3 or 4 friends, come visit with us at the What’s Next booth and pick up your “Out of the Blocks” starter DVD, register your group online (we’ll give you the link), and start meeting!
